Carrickfergus College will be working with IES Ben Gabirol (Spain), Dr George Graf von Arco-Oberschule (Germany) and Istituto Superiore Statale Carlo dell’Acqua (Italy) on a project entitled ‘Minds at Work.’ This will celebrate the European Year of Creativity and Innovation which began in January 2009. Students will investigate how individuals and societies from each participating country have contributed to the history, culture and economy of Europe by taking part in a range of activities which will involve an innovative approach to teaching and learning throughout different departments at Carrick College. The project will hopefully broaden the European perspectives of the students in each school and challenge them to plan and complete a range of project work which will develop their thinking, creative and entrepreneurial skills to prepare them for the world of work within the European Union.
As a Specialist School in Business and Enterprise, Enterprise education will also be promoted throughout the project to encourage students to be contributors to the European economy, whilst we hope to develop ICT skills through the use of the latest technology. Using the title ‘Minds at work’, the project will address themes in subjects across the curriculum, identifying how subjects such as history, art, science, technology and languages can contribute to the creative process. Our project will also promote the development of healthy lifestyles amongst students, encouraging the development of healthy bodies and healthy minds through participation in sport.
You can follow the progress of our Comenius Project here on our blog. The sixth form Comenius Committee will regularly uptake the blog with details of our partner schools, examples of project work from different year groups, and with photos of our Comenius Visits by both teachers and pupils.
